Fast food and sedentary lifestyle causing an increasing
percentage of kids are overweight on these days.
Childhood obesity gives rise to several other problems
like sleep apnea, childhood diabetes, high blood pressure
and high cholesterol levels. How can you help your child
get rid of the excess pounds he seems to be lugging around?
Here are a few simple tips:
- Limit the time your child spends watching television.
It simply encourages them to stay inactive. Moreover,
children tend to eat calorie loaded junk food in large
amounts while watching television.
- Encourage your child to play outdoors. He can join his
friends as they play certain sports. Sometimes, overweight
children tend to feel left out from sports . In such cases,
pushing them to join their peers in sports will not work.
Instead, you can take your child with you for a walk or ask
them to take the dog for a walk. When you go shopping, take
the stairs so that your child is encouraged to do the same.

the family for a walk or jogging in the morning.
Participation of family members prevents your child from
losing his motivation to lose weight.
- Do not let your child snack unnecessarily. let him have
healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts and low fat yogurt.
- Cook meals at home, so that You can reduce amount of cooking oil
and butter used in different dishes. Avoid deep frying foods.
It is better to grill or bake them only use very little oil
involved. Healthy homemade meals are great for your overweight
child and for the family as a whole.
- Make healthy eating as a habit.Child’s diet should contain
plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.Meats, chicken and
fish are prefer. Look for low fat products. For instance,
you can replace whole milk with skimmed milk.
- Serve small portions. let your child Eat the portion that You
serve and then decide whether he is hungry enough to eat more.
Most of the time, children eat even after they are full, just in
order to finish the food in the plate.
- Serve healthy desserts. For instance,You can cut and toss some
fruits to get a healthy fruit salad or you can buy low fat ice
cream.
- Encourage your child to drink plenty of water. It has many
benefits. Not only does it keep your little one hydrated, it will
also help eliminate toxins from his system. Moreover, drinking
water creates a sense of fullness and prevents children from
overeating.
- Never ever tease your child on his weight. This badly injures his
self esteem and he may refrain from your attempts to encourage
weight loss.
- Remember fad diets and crash diets are not meant for children,
so never attempt to put your child on these diets. Growing children
need plenty of energy and nutrition, so make sure that your child
is getting all that he needs.
